Black Forest Cake in a Jar
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 3/4 tsp baking soda
- 3/4 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 can 21 oz cherry pie filling
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tbsp powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Chocolate shavings for garnish
- Maraschino cherries for garnish
Instructions:
Grease four glass jars and preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit 175 degrees Celsius
Sift flour, cocoa powder, granulated sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a large mixing bowl
To the dry ingredients, add eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract
Blend until well combined
Once the batter is thoroughly mixed, stir in the boiling water
It's okay that it will be thin
Pour the batter into each of the jars that have been greased, filling it about halfway
A toothpick inserted in the center should come out clean after baking for 25 to 30 minutes in a preheated oven
After taking the cakes out of the oven, allow them to cool fully
After the cakes cool, make a well in the center of each one using a spoon
Pour cherry pie filling into each well, reserving some for garnish
Beat the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract in a different bowl until stiff peaks form
Add a generous dollop of whipped cream, chocolate shavings, a maraschino cherry, and some of the reserved cherry pie filling to the top of each jar
When you're ready to serve, seal the jars and keep them chilled
